I refuse to vote in the general election for any politician that has disenfranchised me in the primaries. Some things are absolutely unacceptable and completely unforgivable.

I'm wondering whether Clinton is schitzophenic or just far more cold and calculating than I ever believed. Her recent hysterics about Barack's Ohio mailers (accurately calling her out on NAFTA and the shoving of her version of health care insurance down our throats)contrasted to her recent "concession" speech at the end of the Austin debate is just mind-boggling. Did Bill get to her? Was reaching out to Barack at the end of the debate just a tactical ploy? What's up with this woman's psyche?

As for Nader: "Ralph, I voted for you every time in the past because I agreed with you that we needed a second party and a real candidate to stand up against the corporations. This time we have that candidate in Barack Obama. This time, you've proven to me that you're just another egotistical asshole. Get a life."

If this loyal Nader supporter is finally fed up, I think most Democrats will abandon Nader in droves this time. I'm not too worried about him throwing the election.

We do, however, need to stand up to the jingoism of the right and fight them every step. I like Barack's attitude of reaching out to reasonable Republicans but let's not forget that there are some pretty vicious demogogues behind the scenes who will stop at nothing to retain power.

Regardless of whether or not Nader can garner enough votes to prevent a Democratic pick up in any of the swing states, his candidacy poses several other unsavory consequences.

As you have pointed out, Nader's name did not appear on the ballot in Ohio in 2004. This is largely due to the democratic party spending tons of money on variety of tactics and legal maneuvers to keep Nader off the ballot. This was also the case in Oregon, Arizona, and Wisconsin. He was unsuccessfully challenged in Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire and West Virginia. The last thing the democrats need to be doing is spending time and resources all over the country trying to keep him off the ballot.

Also, Nader's goal is to get the candidates to address the issues of concern to him...mainly corporate greed. While I would never deny that this is an issue that needs to be addressed in this country, forcing Obama to up his anti-corporate rhetoric will surely alienate a portion of independent and republican support he now enjoys.

Your analysis that Nader would be a factor in the swing states in 2008 ignores his poor performance in those states in 2004. Not only did Nader win less than 1% of the vote, he was not even on the ballot in Ohio, one of the states that decided the election. Moreover, he only took about 32,000 votes in Florida, the other decisive battleground state of 2004. Bush won that state by more than 300,000 votes. The Nader Factor was a negligible influence in 2004, despite many Democrats' fears. Your article lends more credit to Mr. Nader's prospective run than it deserves.
